SUPERVISION

Besides teaching and conducting research, another major day-to-day responsibility for lecturers and professors is offering supervision to students when it comes to bigger projects such as research papers, theses, or dissertations. Since supervision and feedback are such an integral part of academic success, QCL makes sure that every student receives a suitable supervisor.

In this thread, you can either find a supervisor for your student, or a student for your supervisor. While looking for one, keep in mind that:

Any student who is looking to complete a project receives an appropriate supervisor, meaning that a lecturer with a graduate degree cannot supervise someone writing a dissertation. This also means that someone from Social Sciences will not supervise someone from Business and Management.

Lecturers and professors are busy people. If they spend a lot of time on their research and the subjects they teach, they will naturally have less time to also offer adequate supervision to students on big projects and vice versa.

Research papers and theses are often supervised in groups, meaning that one supervisor can supervise up to five students at the same time for these projects. This does mean that most project meetings will occur in groups rather than individually. Dissertations are always one-on-one.

Writing a research paper approximately takes two months, whereas writing a thesis takes up about half a year. A PhD student producing a dissertation can take anywhere from three to ten years. Take this into account when looking for a supervisor.
