FIND WHAT YOU LOVE
AND LET IT KILL YOU
While the undergraduate thesis was one of the most dreaded parts of a student’s career, Asher liked to think that it wasn’t all that bad in reality. It was a lot of work, yes, but compared to the number of credits you received for successfully completing it, it was all more than fair. Not to mention that it was pretty easy to get a passing grade for it if you didn’t turn in a complete monstrosity of a research paper. He was meant to supervise a couple of students this year, even though he was quite rusty when it came to academic writing. But how hard could it really be?

For now, there were only two students under his supervision, who were now probably waiting for him in one of the faculty’s many tutoring rooms. They had set a meeting last week in order to get started. He was running a little late, courtesy of a diligent student that had been asking him a lot of questions after his lecture. Still, he didn’t see this as any reason to rush. Eventually, he arrived at the designated tutoring room, at ten past two. He opened the door, saw two twenty-something year olds sitting there, and assumed that this was the correct room. “Sorry for being late,” he excused himself, closing the door behind him and pulling back one of the chairs to take a seat. Then, he finally took an actual look at the two students before him. “But welcome, anyway. Before we start about the thesis, I suggest we do a quick round to get to know each other,” he then said. They were going to spend the next half year together, after all. Might as well start by learning each other’s names.

You shouldn’t ask him how, but Oliver finally managed to get into the last year of his bachelor program. It had taken him a little longer than planned, but that had been maybe for the better. At least he had enjoyed the past few years of his study, instead of spending day in and day out in the library cracking the books. There were only a few hurdles that he still had to take before he would finally be able to get his graduation certificate. One of these hurdles was in the form of a thesis for which he had his first meeting today.

Oliver was a little surprised when he had entered the assigned room and found only the girl there that was supposedly also assisted with her thesis by the same supervisor. Oliver throws her a quick smile before he seated himself on a chair. When he opened his phone, he saw that he was only five minutes late. Nevertheless, it did not seem to matter since his supervisor was nowhere to be seen. Oliver started checking his messages, but soon he heard footsteps approaching, and not long after a man appeared in the door's opening. The man apologized as he stepped into the room. Once seated, the man, who was presumably his supervisor, proposed to do a quick round to get to know each other. Oliver looked at him, then moved his eyes to the girl, and back to his supervisor. ”Well, go ahead,” he said eventually, crossing his arms.
