Aut Viam Inveniam Aut Faciam

I will either find a way or make one

Characterized as elitist and exclusionist, organized for the benefit of a largely upper-class membership, this society is not for the faint-hearted. Founded in 1753, this society is the oldest at QCL. You’re expected to have a high level of commitment, so maintaining social groups outside of this close-knit community is hard, but is also why bonds made here are so strong. The membership fee for this association is also very high in comparison to the other association.

The society is the overacting organization of its fraternities and sororities. At the head of the entire society is a board of several students, both male and female. Whilst each fraternity/sorority has its own board, this one is one step above that and oversees all fraternities and sororities.

Hierarchy

    Board explanation

  • Praeses – the president has the overall responsibility for the operation of the society/club. He/she leads all regular and special meetings. He/she also represents the club to the alumni network and outside parties such as the university.
  • Ab-Actis –  the vice president coordinates all membership recruitment activities. He/she is responsible for the official correspondence unless provided for otherwise. He/she also performs the duties of the Praeses in their absence.
  • Quaestor – the treasurer is responsible for the general supervision of a society/club’s finances like receiving payments and paying bills. He/she prepares the annual budget for approval by the club.

  • fraternities & sororities

To become a member of this society, you must go through a set of rituals and a short hazing. Once you’re in, you get to find a place amongst the fraternities and sororities. Fraternities and sororities vary in organization and purpose, but most share five common elements: they consist only of members of the OLYMPIA, are big on secrecy, have single-sex membership, select of new members on the basis of a vetting process known as rushing (recruitment) and pledging (new member period/hazing) and they engage in philanthropic activities, host parties and create networking opportunities for their newly graduated members.

Fraternities, and to a lesser extent sororities, have been criticized for hazing. Hazing during the pledge period can sometimes culminate in an event commonly known as "Hell Week" in which a week-long series of physical and mental torments are inflicted on pledges. Common hazing practices include sleep deprivation, sensory deprivation, forced runs, busy work and mind games.

    Fraternities:
  • ITHACA
  • BEAUFORT
  • Sororities:
  • CAELESTIS
  • NIKH

  • More information on the fraternities and sororities, and how to join, can be found in the topics for the fraternities and sororities.
