    Origins

The Cascioferro family is one of the most infamous families in London. Hailing from Sicily, a branch of the family moved to London in the late 1800's. Yet their roots are much older, with their name dating back to 1780. Back in the day, they were members of the Italian mafia that sought fortune abroad. Unlike most organized crime families, the Cascioferro's were much less violent and favoured silent crime over things like arson, assault and robbery. Instead, they walked the line between illegal and legal activities like a tightrope. They struck deals with whomever they found fit, buying up and selling several businesses in sections like luxury goods and real estate. They were cunning and knew perfectly well who to rub shoulders with, causing them to integrate in high class society like no other. After all, that was were the true money was to be made.

The reason the Cascioferro family survived for so long was because they kept a low profile. Not much is known about them, not even in this day and age. They were merely well-dressed businessmen that provided locations and goods. Today, the focus of their business has shifted a little. Most members have occupations in finance or law. Those in law often defend criminals rather than the victims and have powerful ties in politics and courts. Those in finance still focus on the luxury goods market and real estate. Behind closed -and locked- doors however, they still perform some illegal activities like money laundering, bribery and loan sharking. They never leave a trace of their practices, they don't tell anyone about it. These days, the police isn't even sure if they still have ties to the mafia. And the very few included in their business are afraid they do, which effectively silences them. No one has ever been able to prove their crimes except on one occasion in the 1950's, when a member of the family was sentenced to two years in prison for tax fraud. To almost all, the Cascioferro's are simply an elite, stuck-up bunch of good-looking British-Italians of the highest social class.

    Childhood

Malèna was born as the eldest child of Lorenzo and Gianna Cascioferro. She grew up in a grand townhouse in Kensington, as could be expected from someone from the upper class. Her father Lorenzo -a Brit with Italian roots- works as a businessman that focuses on the trade of luxury goods. Her mother Gianna is from Sicily and worked as a manager until she had Malèna. Little Mal had absolutely nothing to complain about, having a golden childhood. She was blessed with multiple younger siblings. She was raised billingually in English and Italian.

    Gordonstoun School

From a young age, it became clear that Malèna was extremely cunning. She went to Gordonstoun School, a private school in the idyllic Scotland, from age five until she was eightteen like most of her family members. She was put into several clubs and was very popular at school. She had lots of friends and as she became older, boyfriends as well. Her favourite activities included the equestrian- and debate club. She also learned Spanish at school, proving to have quite a knack for languages. During her holidays, she went back home to enjoy time with her family. Summers were often spent in Italy.

    Cambridge University

It was no surprise that Malèna got into Cambridge, without her family's help, as she graduated with flying colours and an impressive resumé that was filled with extracurricular activities. She moved into a grand dorm at the university, studying both economics and law. It was during this time that she also learned French. She got asked to be in the Pitt Club, a private members' club from the University of Cambridge, where she met all sorts of eccentric figures that would become her dearest friends and future business partners. After all, the club is known to bring forward great politicians, actors, journalists and authors.

Malèna recieved her undergraduate degrees at age twenty-two, after which she went on to receive her graduate degree in economics and corporate law at age twenty-four. She was an incredibly hard worker, and no one was really surprised she did so well.

    Moving back to London

After she achieved her university degree, Malèna had the world at her feet. She could pursue a job in either law or finance, and she chose the latter. She applied for a job at JPMorgan Chase & Co, where she instantly became an equity manager. Whether that was because of her name or because of her credentials remains uncertain to this day. She bought her first appartment in Kensington not long after she started her job, it wasn't as if she didn't have the money to do so.

Malèna wasn't particularly interested in her job, finding it rather boring. Instead, she'd much rather focus on something more thrilling. When she was twenty-eight, she decided to quit her job at JPMorgan and move on to more exciting new adventures. With the money she earned, she bought a club where she had already spent a lot of time: the Libertine. It wasn't hard for her to attain the property, she just made the owner an offer he couldn't refuse and pursuaded him to retire.

    Owner of the Libertine

Malèna changed the concept of the once Asian-themed club to a very fresh, sophisticated and futuristic venue perfect for the VIP partygoers. With her upper-class ties and her friends from the Pitt Club, she was able to raise the already high-profile club to a new level. Nowadays, it is the most renowned and high-end club in the city. The rich and famous go here to let loose. What goes on in the VIP rooms is left unknown to the public eye, but after a drink or two people become much more open to bribery, or so is said.
