Cherry was born as Tae-Yeon Choi in Daegu, South Korea. Her mother died during birth, leaving her to be raised by her gambling-addicted father. It did not take long for desperation to strike, however. Trouble caught up to him quickly, and he found himself in so much debt that he was rendered unable to take care of himself, let alone a daughter. Tae-Yeon was given away to a local orphanage, where she spent the majority of her childhood.

But her time there was all but happy. Like many other children there, Tae-Yeon was physically abused. She was always punished harshly for small mistakes, such as not coming on time or slacking on her chores. To this day, she vividly recalls a few of those instances, although she prefers not to think back to those times. Few people know of this, and she prefers to keep it that way.

At the age of eight, Tae-Yeon moved to the United Kingdom. A British couple got in touch with the orphanage and offered to adopt her. She started going to school in a small town in England, where she was heavily teased for her appearance at first. She grew into a quiet but bright young girl, who always chose her academic achievements over the need to socialize with others. Growing up, Tae-Yeon had little to no friends, and eventually, she started to like it that way.

Excelling in school, she decided that she would move to London in order to commence her studies in artificial intelligence and computer science. Her parents were by no means rich, which meant that Tae-Yeon would need to support herself if she wanted to live in capital. She picked up a few waitressing jobs, but either quit because she loathed the work, or was fired because she was too disagreeable towards guests. Wanting desperately to make money through any other means than obnoxious, low-wage jobs, Tae-Yeon took to the internet to find out ways how to make a lot of money very, very quickly.
